Books provide an escape for the author in which they might place part of their mind into. Part of the reason why I read is to find that piece they have implanted. There are currently four books that I am obsessing over. They may seem a bit odd, but they are classics they I have enjoyed immensely.
1) Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov; about a man named Humbert who falls in love with a 12 year old girl named Dolores (nicknamed Lolita). Although first published in English, I only have the German copy of it.
2) Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe; it’s kind of tragic, really. Man makes pact with Devil, then looses everything. Okay, so it’s not exactly a novel, but it’s not really a play either. It’s meant to be read, not performed.
3) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee; Atticus Finch used to be my hero, but then I realized he was a defence attorney, and it reminded me of Phoenix Wright. Even so, this is one of my favourite books.
4) An Inspector Calls by J. B. Priestley; again, not exactly a novel, but I read it in book format. If only all inspectors/detectives were as intelligent as Inspector Goole…
Franny, what nice books they sound like. They almost sound as good as manuals. I'll read them if I have a chance.
ReplyDeleteManual reading.... would that be your job?
ReplyDeleteNo not really. I read them because it's fun to learn how to install things. I don't really have a job, though I do help Alyiene with hers.
